Our Support Services Department provides free assistance to patients and community members who need help getting health coverage or understanding their insurance benefits.
Our Community Health Workers (CHWs) can meet with people who are uninsured, underinsured, or unsure about their coverage options.
We can help you:
- Find out what health insurance programs you may qualify for
- Apply for HUSKY Health/Medicaid
- Explore private insurance through Access Health CT
- Understand your insurance options
- Complete applications and renewals
- Understand letters and notices you receive
- Learn what documents you need
- Connect you with other programs and resources if you do not qualify for coverage

Our Community Health Workers offer one-on-one support with health coverage, benefits, applications, and community resources. Services are available in English and Spanish at all four health center sites and in the community.

HUSKY Health / Medicaid
HUSKY Health is Connecticut’s public health coverage program.
Generations Community Health Workers can help you apply for HUSKY Health and understand your coverage options.
HUSKY Health may provide coverage for eligible:
- Children
- Parents and caregivers
- Pregnant women
- Older adults
- People with disabilities
- Other eligible Connecticut residents
Our Community Health Workers can:
- Help you complete an application
- Help determine which program may be a good fit for you and your family
- Explain information you receive about your coverage
- Help with renewals and other insurance-related questions
- Connect you with additional resources if you do not qualify
Children up to age 19 may qualify regardless of family income level.
Generations Community Health Workers can also connect people who do not qualify for HUSKY with other resources, including medication assistance, preventive health programs and other health services.
Private Insurance-Access Health CT
If you do not qualify for HUSKY/Medicaid, you may be able to get private health insurance through Access Health CT, Connecticut’s official health insurance marketplace.
Generations has certified Access Health CT Application Counselors available year-round to assist with your insurance needs.
We can help you:
- Understand your insurance options
- Find a plan that may meet your needs
- Complete your application
- Determine whether you may qualify for financial assistance to help pay your premium
You may be able to enroll after certain qualifying life events, including:
- Birth of a child
- Marriage
- Divorce
- Loss or change of employment
- Loss of health insurance, except for loss due to nonpayment
Already Have Coverage Through Access Health CT?
You may need to review your coverage, update your information or renew your plan.

What Do I Need to Apply for Health Insurance?
It is helpful to have the following information available:
- Birth dates for everyone in your household
- Social Security numbers for everyone in your household, or document numbers for eligible immigrants
- Citizenship or immigration documents for household members born outside the United States
- Previous year’s tax return
- Employer and income information for everyone in your household, such as pay stubs, W-2s, unemployment information or self-employment records
- Current or previous health insurance information, including policy numbers
